A limited edition 1960s screenprint titled 'Woman' (1963-1965) signed by the Australian artist and painter Sir Sidney Nolan (1917 - 1982). The printers proof is held in the Tate (accession no. P04643). Its blending of woman and swan speaks to Nolan's fascination with Greeks myths and mythology in the period, as is most apparent in his Leda series.
Sidney Nolan is one of Australian most important and influential artists, with his iconic acrylic paintings of Ned Kelly centrepieces of the National Gallery of Art in Canberra, Australia. Born in 1917 in Melbourne Nolan held his first solo exhibition in 1940, becoming close to the art patrons John and Sunday Reed. Moving to London in 1953 Nolan's work grew in prominence with major retrospectives held in London, Dublin, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. His works are held by every major Australian gallery, the Tate gallery in London and The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Nolan died in London in 1992.
It is in very good condition in its original frame. It is mounted on foam board attached to a backing, and is framed with a stainless steel frame. There is some minor warping to the paper as you can see in the photos. It is signed by Nolan on the lower right-hand side and is numbered 12/35.
