An excellent small watercolour of two women, presumably a mother and her infant daughter, walking towards a riverbank. The diminutive pair are framed by large Eucalyptus trees on either side, with the river and far riverbank in the background.
A Scottish-born Australian landscape painter John Sommers senior (1846-1930) studied at the National Gallery of Victoria school and had some dealings with the impressionist painters of the Heidelberg School. An important landscape painter of the period his works are held by the National Gallery of Victoria among others.
It is in very good condition as its frame. It is signed and dated on the lower right hand side.
