A stunning, vibrant painting of the Western Cape in South Africa executed in mixed media. The shading of pink into green captures the rugged beauty of the Western Cape in South Africa, with the scrub edging up against the vast ocean. Alice Elahi (1926-2020) was a South African landscape painter who focused on the coastline around Namibia and the Western Cape. Born in Cape Town and educated in London Elahi's work appeared in many invidual shows and was displayed in a 1988 retrospective at the University of Pretoria. She was described by the art critic Johan van Rooyen as 'one of the most accomplished and subtle landscapists in the book of South African art'.
It is in very good condition in its original frame. It is signed on the lower right hand side.
